Bulgarian: dried organic & probiotic heirloom yogurt starter
$7.75Ask a question
Bulgarian yogurt is basically the original "yogurt" made with Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus.
It's a thermophilic yogurt which means it cultures at higher than room temperature and requires additional heat. Unlike kefir there are also no 'grains'.
You just need to take out a spoon of yogurt to make a new batch and since it's a true heirloom yogurt you can keep doing that at least 5 times. Bulgarian tends to lose the original lactobacillus bulgaricus over time when made in other places than Bulgaria. Therefore keep some of the original starter to make new batches and once in a while order a new starter.

Our cultures are dried, for the simple reason that it's more reliable to ship the dried cultures and from experience we know they offer better results because long term handling do not affect the dried cultures as much as the fresh live packets.
For those living in Belgium or the direct neighboring countries we can ship fresh live packets at your request. But note they offer no additional benefit over dried cultures.
We accept Paypal and credit cards.
If you need to cancel an order, please contact us.
Payment is expected within a week of purchase.
Shipping from Belgium
Orders are fulfilled within 48 hours, with some exceptions:

Live cultures are shipped Mon-Tues noon (and Wed. sometimes at our discretion) of every week to ensure quick, complete transit to your house by the end of the week.
We do not ship live cultures Thurs.-Sat to avoid weekend delays and to ensure your cultures arrive to you in their most fresh and active condition possible.
We guarantee all of our cultures and though it is rare for them to ever fail to thrive, we are more than happy to supply you with a new batch if needed. We cannot accept exchanges unless the exchange is made due to an error in purchase, and done before the item is sent out.
